Although cement is the oldest building material in the world, it continues to play an important role in today's society supporting the landscape in which we live. As a result, it operates in changing environments reacting to the needs of its customers and stakeholders
2010 kicks off with awards hat-trick for Lafarge Cement |
|
|
Lafarge Cement UK has been named as British Precast’s Sustainability Champion for the second year running. The award recognises the associate member who has achieved the most by supporting and investing in the UK precast concrete industry’s sustainability programme.
Lafarge was commended for its achievements in reducing CO2 in the cement production process, investing in reducing water consumption, maintaining successful partnerships with stakeholders and local communities and having an exemplary safety skills training programme.
Lafarge Cement also swept up a record number of wins at the prestigious awards ceremony of the National Buying Group - an independent and fast growing group of privately owned builder’s merchants.
Lafarge won four of the six awards voted for by the NBG’s 76-strong partnership - the first time in the history of the awards that one manufacturer has won every category that they could have been eligible for. As well as scooping Environmental Supplier of the Year, Marketing Initiative of the Year and Heavyside Supplier of the Year, Lafarge Cement stole the show with the NBG’s Grand Award for Supplier of the Year.
In a veritable hat-trick, Lafarge Cement has also scooped Buildbase Scotland’s 2009 Supplier of the Year award following a vote by managers at 15 branches across the country. The prestigious award is given to a supplier that demonstrates an outstanding level of customer service across the board, from supply and logistics to sales promotions, and Lafarge Cement was the clear winner in Scotland this year. |

Responsible Sourcing. Lafarge Cement leads the way |
|
|
As part of its continuous drive to support sustainable construction, Lafarge Cement UK, was the first UK cement producer to be awarded the prestigious BES 6001 Responsible Sourcing Certificate for its products.
They scored strongly across products, achieving a ‘Very Good’ classification for all of its bulk and packed cements and ready-to-use products. They also achieved the ‘Good’ classification for direct supplies of fly ash. This independent scheme, developed by BRE Global, assessed them to ensure that they are minimising and managing their environmental impacts for areas like CO2 , waste and transport as well as demonstrating that their products’ supply chain is traceable and ethical. |

New packaging focused on customer needs |
|
|
Lafarge is reacting to customer feedback in launching new packaging for its packed products following extensive research with its customers and users of its products.
This research demonstrated that users of the products wanted more guidance on getting the most from the products as well as more on-pack environmental information and recommendations on mix and application. As a result, Lafarge has reacted by launching a new colour-coded design with more of the information that was highlighted during the research.
By reacting to this feedback, Lafarge is helping to reduce the risk of wasted product or poor effificencies through encouraging selection of the most appropriate product for the required application.
The new designs will also help customers fully understand the many innovative products provided by the company - many of which have been developed with a specific application in mind (such as installing posts using Postcrete)
Not everything is changing - Lafarge will continue to offer customers comprehensive support, including a technical helpdesk to assist with selection and use of these products. |
