Lafarge Aggregates & Concrete UK is one of the country's largest producers of natural and recycled aggregates, supplying material to a wide range of construction projects throughout the country.
Once the material has been extracted, the land must be restored using imported inert waste materials. This material, usually from construction, enables the benificial re-use of waste and former quarries. This process meets the waste recovery objectives in the European Waste Framework Directive 75/442/EEC.
One use of former quarries is landfill, which provides an essential resource to the community and generates energy from landfill gas and compost-like output using technology from New Earth Solutions.
Lafarge leads the way in recycling with a network of 35 recycling centres processing materials including used rail ballast, concrete and demolition wastes. The recycled material can be used on its own or in concrete and asphalt products. All recycled aggregates conform to the WRAP protocol.
The Waste Management team's processes are compliant with the standards of ISO 14001 and 9002; offering a full service to suppliers and customers.
Lafarge is proud to support the Landfill Communities Fund (LCF), which is administered by the Derbyshire Environmental Trust, to find out more about the LCF, please click here.
