We are proud of our industry-leading record in health & safety. We constantly strive to improve our performance because nothing is more important than the health and safety of our people.
In 2009 our Lost Time Incident Frequency Rate (LTIFR), based on how many days off employees took due to workplace incidents, was 0.78 per 1,000,000 hours worked. We want to do better and strive towards Zero Harm, which will see workplace incidents eradicated.
Commitment from the top |

The commitment to health & safety from Lafarge's managers sends out a very important message.
Visible Felt Leadership (VFL) is shared by 200 managers who commit to visiting sites and talking to employees about health & safety. In 2009 nearly 10,000 hours of management time was spent engaging employees across all sites. |

Health & Safety Month |

Every June Lafarge employees focus on health & safety as part of a worldwide initiative by Lafarge Group.
Previous Health & Safety months have focused on working at heights, working with energy, site housekeeping, health & fitness, sharing best practices and safe driving. |

Celebrating our successes |
|
|
Lafarge recognises excellent performance, best practices and significant milestones in health & safety. This is vital in cementing the importance of our health & safety culture.
We present awards to recognise excellence in health & safety and celebrate this with employees through internal communications and an online knowledge sharing system. |
|
Industry leading training |

|
All employees receive extensive training for their job, ensuring they understand the risks they may face and how to eliminate them. Training includes programmes with universities, in-house training and mentoring.
