At Lafarge we are commited to Responsible Sourcing and transparent and ethical business operations. Our Readymix and Aggregates businesses have been independently recognised as 'Very Good' under the Building and Research Establishment's (BRE) assessment process which confirms our Readymix and Aggregates products have been responsibly sourced. This is a benefit we pass on to our clients and their supply chain.
The independent third-party certification scheme assesses responsible sourcing policies and practices throughout the supply chain; measuring the social, economic and environmental impacts of products over their whole life, from raw state through manufacture and processing use reuse and recycling, until its final disposal as waste.
To meet the scheme's strict criteria Lafarge had to demonstrate compliance within three categories:
- Organisational management
- Supply chain management
- Environmental and social issues
The company's product suite was assessed, including stringent quality checks, assessment of environmental and health & safety management systems and other criteria such as global warming emissions, raw material usage minimisation and biodiversity.
This accreditation is very important to Lafarge. It reflects our commitment to operating a sustainable business and giving our customers and stakeholders confidence that the materials we supply are responsibly sourced.

This independent accreditation provides a holistic approach to managing a product from the moment it is quarried through manufacture, production and onwards. Lafarge's UK Readymix, Cement and Aggregates businesses have all received the framework standard (BES 6001) accreditation to recognise our policies, processes and standards.
