Education

Educational awareness, links and resources

Lafarge Aggregates & Concrete UK is committed to developing relationships with schools close to our sites. The company also supports national education initiatives such as Enterprise Week.

School visits
Schools and other education groups are welcome to visit Lafarge's operational sites including hard rock and sand & gravel quarries, landfill and recycling centres and Readymix plants. Tours of our head office in Leicestershire are also available. Your local Lafarge site manager can even speak to your class in school. Tours are dependent on weather and safety factors. To organise a visit or speaker, please contact the site manager directly or contact our head office on 0116 264 8251.

Play safe... Stay safe
Quarries are for work, not for play! We actively support the Play safe...Stay safe campaign, which warns young people of the dangers of playing in and around quarries, and suggests safe alternative play areas. For more information, visit the Play safe...Stay safe website.

Teenage Trespass
Small children aren't the only ones at risk! Research shows that incidents of teenage trespass are on the rise. To learn more visit the Mineral Products Association's website.

Virtual Quarry

Download comprehensive teaching units

Virtual Quarry is a unique teaching resource designed to introduce children to the quarrying industry. Children can take an interactive tour of a rock quarry and meet Pat the quarry manager, watch short films at the rock cinema and even restore a quarry. Teachers can download comprehensive teaching units for KS1, KS2, KS3 and KS4.

Quarry rescue

Raise the awareness of quarry safety in a fun, interactive way

This is an interactive online game for young people. When the quarry shuts at night, various people break into the quarry - it's your job to rescue them! Players can rescue trespassers by answering questions correctly. To play, visit www.quarryrescue.com
