Champs and missing personsIn order to help solve cases of missing persons, Diana Van Den Dungen came up with the idea of putting pictures on the trucks operated by the company where she works. So, Construction Helping Missing Persons Scheme (Champs) was born. She approached the National Missing Persons Helpline (NMPH), which provides comfort and support for families trying to trace loved ones. Bristol / Easton
ObjectiveThe main objective of Champs is to raise awareness of NMPH campaigns and to reunite families.
SummaryJanuary 2001 saw the launch of Champs in supporting the Helpline NMPH. The person's details (including a picture, a full description and the circumstances of their disappearance) are prominently displayed on posters on the backs of the trucks. The posters also include the NMPH Helpline number and all the logos for the participating partners. The design of the posters allows rapid modification. This facility is vital for the project as there are often sudden developments in cases, which require details on people to be removed quickly.
ResultsSo far, 75% of all cases displayed on Champs trucks have been solved! Over the past 3 years, the project has been able to generate a constant flow of press attention.
Total costFinancial donation: a company can be part of Champs for an annual cost of less than £70 (approx. €110) per truck for the first year and then just £27 (approx. €40) per year ongoing costs. Since 2001, Lafarge has supplied approx. £6,000 (approx. €9,000).
