Open days

At our last Open Day in 2004, we welcomed more than 4,000 visitors through the gates. We were delighted to extend another invitation to the local community to visit the site in May 2012, to meet our team and find out about the activities of a working quarry that supplies essential materials to help build our world.

As well as regular tours into the quarry to see some of our equipment and machinery in action, local people spoke with our experts, discovered our rich heritage and enjoyed the visitor attractions on offer.

The open days also gave local people an early opportunity to view our proposals on plans which will secure the future of Mountsorrel Quarry. These proposals, which will require planning permission, centre on extending the quarry rim and moving the primary crusher and surge pile to a new lower level within the quarry.

Various surveys, reports and consultations need to be carried out before any planning application is submitted. One of the first of these reports is a 'scoping report', a document submitted by Lafarge to Leicestershire County Council which sets out what topics need to be included in the environmental statement to accompany any future planning application.

Here are all the display boards and exhibition guide from the open days.
